About Qtum

Qtum is a decentralized open-source smart contract platform and cryptocurrency (QTUM). Patrick Dai designed Qtum to power decentralized mobile apps that can be integrated with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Qtum functions as a cross between the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Bitcoin. As a fork of Bitcoin’s source code, Qtum follows its transaction model but uses less computing power and resources. An “Account Abstract Layer” is used to link the EVM with the unspent transaction output model of Bitcoin. Launched in 2017, Qtum uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus, allowing all QTUM holders to participate. The project is looked after by the QTUM Foundation and is governed by a DGP or “Decentralized Governance Protocol”. QTUM is capable of 60 transactions per second (TPS).
